Elaina

Early Foundations

I was raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for our family. She worked nights at an after-hours club—leaving as we were going to sleep and returning home just as we were waking up. Despite the demands of her life, she was always there in the moments that mattered. Her strength, consistency, and capacity for love shaped everything I understand about resilience. She didn’t just tell us how to live—she showed us. From her, I learned the value of hard work, independence, and showing up fully, no matter the circumstances.

Learning to Stand on My Own

By the time I was 12, I was already working—busing tables, taking on whatever opportunities I could find. Earning my own money gave me something more than income. It gave me confidence. It gave me agency. It taught me that I could create my own path, even in spaces where I wasn’t always expected to belong. Those early experiences shaped how I moved through the world—with determination, curiosity, and a willingness to step forward, even when the path wasn’t clear.

Building a Career in an Uneven Landscape

Over the course of more than three decades in financial services, I built my career from the ground up. When I entered the industry, there were very few women in leadership roles outside of HR. Advancement wasn’t always based on merit, and opportunities were not always equally distributed. At one point, I was passed over for a leadership role I had earned—given instead to someone with less experience. For years, I found myself managing the consequences of that decision while watching my own progress stall. It was a defining moment. Instead of waiting for opportunity, I made the decision to create it. I moved into production, stepping into a role that came with uncertainty, risk, and little support—but also with autonomy and possibility.

Finding My Edge

In the early years, success was far from guaranteed. Working on commission, often without the same level of support or training as others, I learned to rely on resourcefulness, relationships, and persistence. Selling did not come naturally to me, and much of the traditional approach to finance felt misaligned with how I wanted to work with people. That changed when I was introduced to managed money—a model that aligned the interests of clients and advisors in a more thoughtful, long-term way. It immediately resonated. From that point forward, my business began to grow, not just financially, but in depth, integrity, and purpose.

Expanding Perspective

As my career evolved, I moved into more complex areas of finance, including public funds, defined benefit plans, and institutional strategy—spaces traditionally dominated by men. Along the way, I was supported by mentors and peers who challenged my thinking and expanded what I believed was possible. One defining experience was attending a conference where participants described themselves as “alchemists”—individuals who could transform something ordinary into something extraordinary. That idea stayed with me, not as an abstract concept, but as something I had been doing all along.

Success—and the Cost of It

As my career accelerated, so did the pace of my life. From the outside, everything appeared to be working. I was building wealth, growing professionally, and achieving meaningful success. But internally, something was missing. While I had learned how to build financial wealth, I had not yet learned how to care for myself in a sustainable way. Long hours, constant movement, and a lack of balance began to take their toll. There was little space for rest, reflection, or physical well-being, and over time, the cost of that imbalance became clear.

A Turning Point

Recognizing that something needed to change, I stepped away to reset and recalibrate. What began as a pause became a turning point. I spent time focusing on my health—physically, mentally, and emotionally—relearning what it meant to nourish myself and create space for restoration. This period marked a shift, not just in how I lived, but in how I understood success.

The Insight That Changed Everything

Through that experience, a realization emerged: wealth is not just financial. It is not defined solely by what is accumulated, but by how a person lives, feels, and sustains what they have built. True wealth includes emotional clarity, physical vitality, intellectual growth, and meaningful connection. Without those elements, financial success alone can feel incomplete.

Wealthcare

That realization became the foundation for what I now call Wealthcare. Wealthcare is an approach that aligns financial decisions with personal values and well-being. It expands beyond traditional financial strategy to consider the full context of a person’s life. It is not about maximizing outcomes at any cost, but about making decisions that are both financially sound and personally meaningful.

Why This Work Matters

This perspective is especially relevant in a moment of significant transition. Over the coming decades, an unprecedented transfer of wealth is moving into the hands of women. Yet many have not been given the tools, confidence, or support to navigate that responsibility fully. This is not just a financial shift—it is a cultural one. When women build and direct wealth, the impact extends far beyond individual outcomes, influencing families, communities, and future generations.

essVest

essVest was created as a response to that moment. It is a platform designed to bring together financial insight, emotional intelligence, and meaningful connection. It offers a space for women to better understand themselves, explore their relationship with wealth, and make decisions with greater clarity and confidence. Through curated experiences, conversations, and community, it supports a more integrated and intentional approach to building a life.

Looking Forward

My work today is shaped by everything that came before it—the resilience I learned early in life, the challenges I faced in my career, the mentors who offered guidance, and the lessons gained through both success and imbalance. Each experience has contributed to a deeper understanding of what it means to build something sustainable. Moving forward, my focus remains clear: to help other women step into their potential, navigate their own transitions, and create lives that are not only successful, but fully aligned with who they are.

We are not just building wealth.

We are building lives.
